Acadia National Park - Day 4
Wednesday saw the sun peek through the clouds right after sunrise. After leaving the hotel I had planned out a loop hike of the Long Pond Trail, part of the Great Notch Trail, and part of Gilley trail. I thought this would take all day so I packed a lunch. I did 5.5 miles in three hours, including hiking up over a gap through the mountains.
After I finished this loop I didn’t really know what to do. Most of the hikes on the west side of the island went straight up to the top of a mountain peak and I wasn’t really interested in 1200ft of elevation change over a mile.
Lunch was in the Pretty Marsh area and I saw a fox in the road. They really do hop like depicted in the cartoons.
I did a short hike through the area called Wonderland and took some nice photos. High tide was at 2, so the ocean was very rough.
One of the most amazing things about Wednesday was the night sky. The clouds cleared out at dusk. Before bed I pointed my camera up to see what I could catch. The view from my campsite is below.
With skies like that, I drove down to the seawall for some more photos. I took a 180 degree overhead panorama that I am having trouble stitching together. Here’s the view from the seawall.
